About Shinken Dojo
My name is Dean Hensley and I am the founder and chief instructor of Shinken Dojo. I have training in martial arts for 10 years in Freestyle Martial Arts, Jujitsu and Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. The reason I like Budo Taijutsu is that is combines the traditional style of the Japanese Ninja with techniques such as rolling, throwing, strikes and unarmed self defensive skills. These are taught to reflect realistic situations which can be encountered in todays society.
In a 2014 trip to Japan I passed my Godan test (5th Dan).
In 2017 while on a training trip to Japan I was surprised and honoured to be granted my 10th Dan by Dai Shihan Nagato.
In 2019 I was graded to 12th Dan By Dai Shihan Darren Horvath
This is testament to my commitment and hard work to the Bujinkan.
Bujinkan
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is the collection of martial arts and techniques inherited by Soke (Grandmaster) Masaaki Hatsumi.
The Bujinkan was formed in 1970 and has it headquarters in Noda, Japan.
There are nine schools of martial study forming the core of the Bujinkan, each with their own specialties and differences.
Masaaki Hatsumi learned these schools from Toshitsugu Takamatsu and the schools are as follows:
Gyokko ryū Kosshi jutsu (玉虎流骨指術)
Koto Ryū Koppō jutsu (虎倒流骨法術)
Takagi Yoshin Ryū Jūtai jutsu (高木揚心流柔体術)
Shinden Fudo Ryū Dakentai jutsu (神伝不動流打拳体術)
Kuki Shinden Happō Bikenjutsu (九鬼神伝流八法秘剣術)
Togakure-ryū Ninpō Taijutsu (戸隠流忍法体術)
Gikan Ryū Koppō jutsu (義鑑流骨法術)
Gyokushin-ryū Ryū Ninpō (玉心流忍法)
Kumogakure Ryū Ninpō (雲隠流忍法)
